Therapy on Financial Anxiety and Worry
Money can be a complicated source of worry and distress for many individuals. For some people who see me in my practice, I try to explore their relationship with money to detangle irrational beliefs and distortions in order to lead a life with less worry and fear.
How people view money can be influenced by cultural beliefs, gender norms, and individual feelings.
For many high-achieving individuals who have experienced a rapid increase in their net worth, they may continue to view money as a scarce resource that may cause them to feel as though they are not fully experiencing the full potential of their hard work. These views on money are sometimes associated with very entrenched memories and experiences that exploring in therapy could help in understanding better.
Other individuals may experience potential relationship conflict when their own views on money are not fully aligned with their partners. A couples therapy approach in exploring each others viewpoints on money and developing a shared understanding and empathy for each other can be beneficial for this issue.
